St. Catharines, ON – The Niagara River Lions are proud to announce details for the celebration of their 10th season, marking a decade of growth, success and deep community connection in the Niagara Region. As part of his milestone, the team is unveiling a special 10th anniversary logo, a brand refresh, and revealing plans for the historic anniversary celebration. Honoring a Decade of River Lions Basketball The team’s new anniversary logo pays homage to the franchise’s history. It features the original uniform font from the 2015 inaugural season along with a blue wave element, a nod to the team’s first logo before joining the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) in 2018. The anniversary logo will be featured throughout the 2025 season, including as a patch on player uniforms, at center court, and across all marketing materials. A Bold New Look for the Future In addition to the anniversary logo, the River Lions are officially transitioning their team colors from navy and lime green to black and lime green. This change, which subtly began in 2024, will continue to be integrated across all team branding, marking the beginning of a new era for the franchise. Black symbolizes strength, resilience, and dominance, while lime green represents energy, passion, and relentless drive—traits that define the River Lions both on and off the court. #RunItBack – A New Rally Cry After winning the 2024 CEBL Championship, the River Lions are retiring the hashtag #TheHunt, signifying the completion of their championship pursuit. Moving forward, the River Lions will embrace a new mantra: #RunItBack, reflecting the team’s focus on defending their championship title in 2025 and solidifying their place as one of the league's top teams. 10th Anniversary Celebration Night – June 13, 2025 The River Lions will host a special 10th anniversary celebration night on June 13th, to honour the team's rich history where the organization will welcome back alumni, former staff, coaches, interns and volunteers for a weekend of festivities, highlighted by the championship ring ceremony and banner raising to commemorate the 2024 championship victory. Details on events including an alumni game and breakfast will be revealed at a later date, promising a weekend full of memorable moments for the River Lions family. A New Era of Leadership The 2025 season also marks a leadership transition as Michelle Biskup steps into the role of President of the Niagara River Lions. Michelle has been an integral part of the organization since 2016, growing alongside the team and shaping its success both on and off the court. Most recently serving as Vice President of Operations, she has gained experience in nearly every facet of the business. providing to be a dynamic leader and key figure in the team’s evolution. Her impact extends beyond the River Lions, as she was a valuable resource during the inception of the CEBL, helping establish some of the league’s operational framework. Originally from Burlington, Michelle has called the Niagara Region home for over a decade. Her leadership and contributions to the local business community have been recognized with multiple accolades, including being named a Business Link Top 40 Under 40 recipient in 2021 and a Women in Business Young Professional Finalist by the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce in 2018. Draft results will be unveiled live on league’s official streaming platform for the first time The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Thursday that results of the 2025 CEBL Draft will be unveiled live on CEBL+ for the first time in league history via the ‘2025 CEBL Draft Reveal Show’ on Thursday, April 10 at 7 p.m. ET. Fans can subscribe at plus.cebl.ca for free access to the show and other CEBL video content including upcoming live and previously archived games. The show, featuring the talents of CEBL Weekly hosts Dhanung Bulsara and Esfandiar Baraheni, as well as Canadian University sports expert Dashawn Stephens, Founder and Creative Director of PRSVRE Media Group, will include the full reveal of all 30 players selected by CEBL clubs this year from U SPORTS and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) programs, instant analysis of each team’s picks, an interview with Mike Morreale, Commissioner and Co-Founder of the CEBL, and more! St. Catharines, ON - The Niagara River Lions announced today the signing of 6’9 Canadian forward, Eddie Ekiyor for the 2025 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season. The 27-year old Ottawa, Ontario native returns for a second season with the team after missing the 2024 campaign due to an injury. Ekiyor last played for Sporting CP of the Liga Betclic in Portugal during the 2023-24 season where he was a contender for the league’s Most Valuable Player award averaging 18.6 points, 1.5 assists, and 5.8 rebounds in 28.1 minutes per game. “Eddie Ekiyor can be defined by his energy, whether that be on the basketball court, in the practice facility, or out in the community,” said Head Coach and General Manager, Victor Raso. “He loves to be around people, he loves to compete, and he makes his teammates better. Eddie is very good at basketball, and has worked incredibly hard during his knee rehab to remind everyone of that. Welcome back Eddie!” A product of the Carleton University Ravens basketball program, Ekiyor is a two time U SPORTS champion and two-time All Canadian who ended his collegiate career as the MVP during the 2019 final 8 tournament. Ekiyor averaged 12.7 points and 6.7 rebounds in 23 minutes per game during his time as a Raven. Ekiyor began his professional career in 2021 playing in the Georgian Superliga , followed by a standout season in the Israeli National League , where in 31 games he was the leagues third best scorer (20.6) and fourth best rebounder (10.3) for Maccabi Ma’ale Adumim . After joining the River Lions in 2023, Ekiyor made an impact both on and off the court, earning CEBL Defensive Player of the Year honors as well as being named the recipient of the Ben Zwolak Community Ambassador Award for his contributions to the community and positive attitude on and off the court. A 6th Man of the year finalist, Ekiyor led the River Lions in rebounds per game (5.6) while contributing 12.2 points and 0.9 blocks per game. He shot 41.7 in three-point percentage and 81.5 from the foul line. Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Ekiyor is eager to make a statement and help contribute to the River Lions as they celebrate their 10th season. We have, without a doubt, the best organization in the CEBL." said Ekiyor, "The front office, coaches, players and our dedicated fans are unmatched and I can't wait to do my part to help our team win another championship!"
